Spring Bird Breeding Season is here at Brontosaurus Pets.

In nature, seasonal changes create conditions that stimulate the release of breeding hormones that give parrots the urge to breed.

For most parrots this urge to breed is in response to the warm weather and increasingly longer daylight hours of spring.

To get the best chances of breeding, you need to ensure that your birds are in prime breeding condition.  This includes feeding a good quality seed and or pellets and feeding sprouted seeds.  Breeding hens also need high levels of bird calcium supplement to stay healthy while producing eggs.

Most birds can be bred in aviaries or individually in bird breeding cages. Bird breeding cages must have enough space for the birds to move around comfortably and continue with normal behaviour.

Nest box size – rough rule of thumb – The internal length of each side of the base of the nest box is equal to the length of the bird minus the tail i.e. beak to vent length.  Minimum height of the nest box to be at least three times the internal width of the nest box.

Give your bird the choice of about three logs or nest boxes at the start of the breeding season to allow the birds to choose the one that they prefer.
